Piolo and Inigo Pascual: A Father and Son Perfection
Quick! Think of a hot father-and-son tandem in showbiz! Aside from the Bueranos or maybe Luis and his dad, I can only add these guys: Piolo and Iñigo Pascual! While we’ve seen Piolo in various states of undress – unwavering in his handsomeness, we’re furtively hoping barely-legal Iñigo’s going to follow his papa’s path to sexiness. Starting with swim trunks or Bench Body underwear, maybe.

"Ekstra" of Vilma Santos (Best Actress) bag awards in Cinemalaya 2013; Jasmine Curtis-Smith won Best Supporting Actress for "Transit"
Showbiz veteran Vilma Santos and young actress Jasmine Curtis-Smith were recognized for their roles in "Ekstra" and "Transit," respectively, during the awards night of this year's Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival held on Sunday.
Santos was named best actress in the Director’s Showcase category for her role as a bit player in “Ekstra,” while Smith was awarded best supporting actress for “Transit,” which was entered in the “New Breed” category.
Santos' award was accepted by "Ekstra" producer Joji Alonso and director Jeffrey Jeturian instead, as the veteran actress was unable to attend the ceremonies.
Smith, meanwhile, was very excited to receive her award. "I really didn't expect this," she said.
"I gave my best, I gave my all. The experience was more than I wanted. Thank you so much, I am looking forward to more projects at Cinemalaya."
There were five films in the “Director’s Showcase” category, while 10 were entered in the “New Breed” category. Ten short features also took part in this year’s Cinemalaya.
Expansions
Cinemalaya patron Tonyboy Cojuangco said in his speech at the end of the awarding ceremonies at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Main Theater that the board will take a “businessman’s approach” to the festival starting next year, to address people’s complaints regarding the availability of the films.
They are also thinking to schedule the festival in August, he said, in order to avoid competition with Hollywood blockbusters and allow the films to be shown in more cinemas.
Another thing the Cinemalaya board can do to make the Cinemalaya films available to a wider audience is to explore other platforms such as the Internet, Cojuangco said.
This year, the Cinemalaya films were shown at the CCP and cinemas in Ayala-owned malls Greenbelt 3, Trinoma and Alabang Town Center. In a break from previous years, the films were not shown at the University of the Philippines’ Film Institute in Diliman, Quezon City.

Mario Maurer is back in the Philippines
During the Pee Mak red carpet last August 3 in TriNoma, Mario Maurer
together with his director Banjong Pisanthanakun face his supporters who
was ecstatically wanted to see him after his last visit during the Suddenly It’s Magic movie with Erich Gonzales. Pee Mak was under the production of GTH and will be distributed by Star Cinema
here in the Philippines starting August 28. The film also stars Davika
Hoorne, Pongsathorn Jongwilas, Nattapong Chartpong, Auttarut Kongrasri
and Kantapat Permpoonpatcharasook.
Mario Maurer could not hide his excitement and happiness after seeing his supporters waiting for him in the cinema area of TriNoma. He mentioned that he is very happy and thankful that Pee Mak will be shown in the Philippines like his other film Crazy Little Thing Called Love and his first Philippine film with Erich. According to him, he enjoyed doing Pee Mak because it was a perfect combination or horror, comedy and romance which was set in a poor village during the war in Siam. During the short program Mario said “mahal ko kayo” which intensifies the emotions of his supporters who went in TriNoma in order to see him. He is hoping that they will love the story of Pee Mak.
Pee Mak is horror comedy film that follows the life of Mak (Mario) together with his 4 friends who survived the war. His wife Nak was feared in the village because of the belief she’s already a ghost along with their son. It will be a big quest to the friends of Mak to help him realize the truth in order to save him. The movie is a total riot which includes the fun and horror at the same time that it is perfect “barkada” movie. I really admire how scenes were shot the texture and the feel that shows how devastated are the area along with the production and costume design. And most of all I really enjoyed the twist that really give the funny complication on the simple movie like Pee Mak. The film was based from the Thai folklore Mae Nak Phra Khanong.
Mario Maurer became popular in the Philippines because of the film The Love of Siam in 2007 and later another hit in 2010 for the film Crazy Little Thing Called Love (First Love).
