I’m telling the truth lang gyud!

Tom Rodriguez, Carla Abellana and Dennis Trillo in "My Husband's Lover"

"My Husband's Lover is filled with symbolism"

My Husband’s Lover is a breath of fresh air in the often stale and boorish telenovelas of the last two decades. Never has Philippine television engaged viewers in a unique love triangle—a married man caught between his loving wife and his openly gay lover. Although we may be modern users of the Internet and cell phones—by the way, devices integral to MHL—our  level of tolerance for stories on the boob tube is always limited to heterosexual relationships and issues. Gays may be part of a TV drama series but they are never the lead characters. They are always the comic relief or the best friend in a supporting role.
In My Husband’s Lover, the gay characters and the wife are the protagonists. Carla Abellana essays her biggest role ever on TV as the clueless wife, Lally Agatep-Soriano. Tom Rodriguez plays Vincent Soriano, Lally’s husband who is a closet gay still pining for his high school lover Eric Del Mundo (Dennis Trillo).
Director Dominic Zapata gives a fresh take on issues that conservatives would rather sweep under the rug such as homosexuality, infidelity and extended family dynamics. Suzette Doctolero’s story/script faces the issues head-on without resorting to histrionics and uber melodramatic monologues.
The story unfolds initially from Lally’s point of view. But the conflict revolves around Vincent’s denial of his true gender identity and its repercussions once he gives in to his secret desires.
ENSEMBLE ACTING. Dennis Trillo is very effective as the openly-gay architect still in love with his best friend. His body language, its nuances and gestures, mark him not only as an actor but as a true artist. Handsome, bedimpled Tom Rodriguez is a revelation—he can act after all! You can feel Vincent’s pain, confusion and inner struggles all at the same time, without his uttering a single word.
Through the lead actors’ rapport, the chemistry between Vincent and Eric is palpable. When they gaze at each other and hold hands you can feel the love emanating from them. In spite of Vincent being a family man, we can’t help rooting for the lovers whose emotions are genuine and pure. Romantic strings tug at the heart each time they meet,  accidentally hold hands, gaze into each other’s eyes.
Their intimate scenes are performed with utmost care and decency. You can feel their yearning for each other without bed scenes, indecent exposure or torrid kissing scenes. Dennis and Tom, aside from being good actors, are pleasant to the eyes as well, making their characters even more appealing.
On the other hand, you also feel for the wife. She is a victim here. Her marriage is a sham; she’s clueless about her husband being gay. Carla Abellana is brilliant in her role. As the naïve wife and obedient daughter-in-law, she seamlessly fits into the role. Her acting is subdued throughout the series, even when she catches her husband with his gay lover. Her eyes speak volumes of her pent-up frustration and resentment.
To our surprise, Kuh Ledesma (Elaine Soriano) and Roi Vinzon (Armando Soriano) have chemistry, too. Elaine may be your typical “halimaw na biyenan” but she still empathizes with Lally. She does not tolerate Vincent coming home late and forgetting his marital duties. Her character is real, not one-dimensional.
As Vincent’s homophobic dad, Roi plays his role to the hilt, yet Armando’s bantering with his wife and other family members lightens the story. Armando is hateful and charming at the same time.
Chanda Romero as the visual artist Sinag Del Mundo is the compassionate yet down-to-earth mother of Eric. Sinag represents modern parental values laced with social norms and mores. In Freud’s psychosexual theory of development, she is the super ego, the conscience. She accepts her son unconditionally but she intervenes and never fails to mince words when telling him off for his affair with a married closet gay.
Eric’s BFF Danny (Kevin Santos) and Vince’s friend/former lover David (Victor Basa), though gay themselves, do not tolerate the Eric-Vince shenanigans. The Soriano kids Diego (Antone Limgenco) and Hannah (Elijah Alejo), always cute and adorable, complete the picture of a “happy” family, making you want to shield them from pain.
PRODUCTION. Editing is fast-paced, gritty and innovative in this TV series. No dull moment. Not a second wasted. Flashbacks and present action are frequently interspersed, making the story more dynamic and reinforcing character development.
Visually, My Husband’s Lover is appealing to the eyes. Camera angles lure the viewers into the deepest emotions of the characters without overpowering them. Transition shots blend one scene with the next smoothly. The Soriano mansion may be everyone’s dream, but for Lally, particularly in the first few weeks of married life, it is a gilded cage.
Initially, the downside of the show was the music. Kuh Ledesma’s “One More Try” drowned out every dramatic scene, being played during opening and closing credits and every scene in between, much to the chagrin of viewers like me. This is saying a lot because I’m an avid Kuh Ledesma fan.
But netizens were able to send their message across; during the last two weeks of the show the musical scoring was more subtle. It even now has Jonalyn Viray’s “Help Me Get Over” which alternates with Kuh’s song and makes the scenes more poignant. Music is now used effectively, as in the breakup scene of Eric and Vincent, heightening emotions so that you almost feel your own heart break.
Symbols and metaphors are significant in My Husband’s Lover. For instance, the rain pouring heavily during Vincent and Lally’s wedding seems a pouring of blessings; metaphorically, it forecasts the heartaches and trials that would befall the marriage.
Lally’s suspicion that her husband has a mistress ends with a key that opens a Pandora’s box of lies and deceptions far worse than she ever thought. Her shoe that falls as she lies unconscious in shock evokes the Cinderella fairy tale, but for her there’s no happy ending in store. As for the lovers, the wine glass that Eric drops when Vincent breaks up with him, lacerating his feet as it shatters, symbolizes their world gone to pieces.
Kudos to team MHL and GMA-7 for coming up with a series that encourages viewers to question their belief system and core values. To say that I love this show is an understatement.  It is one of the best TV shows in 2013.

Dennis Trillo and Tom Rodriguez play gay lovers in the upcoming TV series"My Husband's Lover" this June 2013.

I'm effin' excited for this! Woot! Kudos to GMA-7 for putting up this upcoming soap! I'll buy this on DVD if it comes out!

ABS-CBN's (66%) Profit Increase is 11% Range, Higher than GMA (55%)

ABS-CBN Q1 2013 Income Up by 66%

The consolidated net income of ABS-CBN Corporation (“ABS-CBN” or the “Company”) (PSE: ABS, ABSP), the country’s largest media and entertainment company , registered P508 million in net income for the first quarter of 2013, a significant increase of 66% compared with P306 million in the same period last year. The growth in income was fuelled by strong regular advertising revenues as well as election-related ads. Consumer sales also grew at a significant rate.

ABS-CBN generated consolidated revenues of P7.9 billion from advertising and consumer sales, a 21% increase compared to last year.

Advertising revenues reached P4.4 billion, an increase of 22% from a year ago. Consumer sales amounted to P3.5 billion, posting an 18% increase. Sky Cable continues to be a major driver of growth with revenues increasing by 43% to P1.6 billion. The growth in revenues is partly attributable to the acquisition of Destiny Cable.

Total costs and expenses increased by 17% to P7.2 billion brought about by increases in production costs, cost of sales and services , and general and administrative expenses.

Capital expenditure and film and program rights acquisition amounted to P1.1 billion which was the same level of spending last year.

ABS-CBN led in national audience share and ratings for Urban and Rural audiences with prime-time audience share averaging 46% in the first three months of 2013, a 16 percentage point lead over GMA’s, based on Kantar National TV Ratings.

For the first quarter, the top 15 programs for Total Philippines (Urban and Rural) were from ABS-CBN, with the following occupying the Top 10 slots: Juan dela Cruz,Ina Kapatid Anak, Juan dela Cruz Ang Simula, Wansapanataym, Princess and I, MMK Ang Tahanan Mo, Pilipinas Got Talent Saturday, TV Patrol Weekday, Be Careful with My Heart, and Aryana.

ABS-CBN Film Productions, Inc. released 6 films in the first three months of 2013. Three of them–One More Try, Sisterakas and It Takes a Man and Woman grossed more than P200 million each.

GMA Network's Profit Increased by 55% in Q1 2013

Broadcast industry leader GMA Network, Inc. (GMA) reported impressive year-on-year growth in both revenues and profits for the first quarter of 2013 supported by its improved performance across key financial indicators.

Consolidated revenues for the first quarter posted a 24 percent increase to P3.241 billion, while net income soared 55 percent to P603 million compared to last year.

This marked improvement in Q1 earnings came mostly from the rise in airtime revenues, which climbed 26 percent to P2.950 billion during the quarter.

The Network said that, while political advocacies and advertisements provided incremental revenues in the topline amounting to 12 percent of the increase, recurring advertisements still contributed the greater balance or 14 percent of the total revenue hike.

“We are more than pleased with the performance of the company for the first quarter,” said GMA Network Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon. “Such improvements validate our forecast that 2013 will be a particularly strong year for GMA. Our sales continue to grow at a steady pace and we look forward to the future with optimism,” he added.

GMA’s flagship Channel 7, which accounted for 85 percent of the total airtime earnings, reflected a 26 percent upsurge, while revenues from Regional TV, the business unit that manages GMA’s Regional TV operations, grew by a robust 85 percent following its continued expansion programs.

Two new originating stations namely GMA Ilocos and GMA Bicol (formerly a satellite station) opened in the second half of last year, while the Cagayan de Oro satellite station was also upgraded into an originating station in the first quarter of this year. These newly operational originating stations along with the rest of the Regional TV stations showed remarkable improvements in their respective top lines with the Cebu and Dagupan originating stations still leading the roster.

Sales from Radio operations grew 27 percent as a result of DZBB and LSFM maintaining their competitive position nationwide and in Mega Manila, thereby boosting advertising load, while leading local news channel GMA News TV registered flat growth in airtime revenues.

Meanwhile, subscription and advertising revenues from GMA International, which manages the operations and distribution of the Network’s international channels, improved by 7 percent owing to the rise in advertising placements in this platform over last year. The subscriber uptake of GMA’s flagship international channel GMAPinoy TV and the first Filipino lifestyle channel abroad GMA Life respectively increased by 9 percent to almost 330,000 subscribers, and 6 percent to close to 125,000 subscribers.

In an effort to further strengthen the value proposition of the GMA Channels, GMA International recently relaunched its broadcast services in the Middle East and East Africa via its new carrier MyHD – offering the three international channels GMA Pinoy TV, GMA Life TV and GMA News TV International at a lower cost of $25 but with the addition of 28 English language programs, 14 of which are in High Definition. Likewise, GMA International fortified its presence in Canada through the launch of the GMA Package in most of the major carries in the area, and added Palau to its worldwide family.

On the other hand, GMA Worldwide, the program syndication and licensing arm of GMA, sold over 900 hours of program and movie titles to Brunei, Cambodia, Kenya, Malaysia, Singapore, and Vietnam, among others.

The self-titled album of Kapuso singer-actress Julie Anne San Jose under GMA Records continues to do well in terms of sales as it scored a Triple Platinum Record Award from its combined physical and digital sales of over 52,000 units for the period August 15, 2012 to February 26, 2013. San Jose’s carrier single “I’ll Be There” already hit over 375,000 downloads landing it a Double Platinum Digital Single Award – with Julie Anne being the very first recipient of this award according to the Philippine Association of the Record Industry.

The company’s total operating expenses, on the other hand, grew by only 13 percent to P2.371 billion year-on-year primarily on increased production costs in an effort to further strengthen its programming. Adding to the increase in direct cost are the depreciation of the commissioning of new studios in the regions and from major renovations and upgrade of other broadcast facilities nationwide. General and administrative expenses (GAEX) surpassed last year by only 5 percent mainly due to the increase in personnel cost.

GMA allotted P91 million for its coverage of the recent mid-term elections. This year, GMA utilized the highly sophisticated Vizrt Immersive Graphic System interfaced with the Mosys camera tracking system to allow for a more dynamic and seamless presentation of information, context packages and real time immersive graphics. The same tracking system was used by CNN for their 2012 U.S. PresidentialElection coverage. The Network also purchased a digital mobile news gathering system called 10 Ibis Pro for a faster exchange of information between the base and GMA reporters, among other facilities including the fully-equipped GMA election hub.

The company thus ended the first quarter with earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) of P1.189 billion or a 56 percent growth versus the same period last year.

Last May 14, GMA paid out to its shareholders cash dividends amounting to P1.215 billion (25 centavos per share) much higher compared to the amount released by ABS-CBN, which was only about P300 million.

On television, GMA maintained its leadership in the key areas of Urban Luzon and Mega Manila for the first quarter, based on data from the broadcast industry’s more widely recognized ratings service provider Nielsen TV Audience Measurement. Urban Luzon and Mega Manila account for 76 and 59 percent, respectively, of the total urban TV households in the country.

In Urban Luzon, GMA registered a total day audience share of 35.4 percent – ahead of ABS-CBN’s 29.2 by 6.2 points and of TV5’s 15 percent by 20.4 points. GMA likewise kept its ratings edge in its bailiwick Mega Manila with 36.3 percent – up 9.1 points from ABS-CBN’s 27.2 percent and up 20.4 points from TV5’s 15.9 percent.

GMA will launch at least 9 new programs this June and anticipates larger ratings margins with its new programming grid.

GMA subscribes to Nielsen TV Audience Measurement along with 22 other paying subscribers including another local major television network (TV5), Faulkner Media, CBN Asia, 15 advertising agencies, and 4 regional clients.

In Mega Manila, Nielsen has a sample size of 1,190 homes versus Kantar Media’s 770 homes. Nationwide, Nielsen has an urban sample size of 2,000 homes compared to the lower sample size of 1,370 utilized by Kantar Media.

Sebastian Castro to Vice Ganda: "Vice Ganda is awsome! There is no Vice Ganda equivalent to anywhere!"

TV ng GMA-7 last Sunday, February 24.

A few days later, February 18, Sebastian made the announcement to his "sebsters"--his term of endearment for his followers--He is gay.

In his video Seb proudly said, "Hello, Sebsters. I just came out of the closet on all my social media. I am gay. I am proud to be gay. I am proud to be one of you.

"I... It's a relief actually. It feels good..."

He shared the hardships he experienced when he told his parents and his friends about his being gay.  He also confessed he once thought of killing himself when he was a teenager.

But Seb, obviously realizing living is better, told his sebsters to not go in the same lonely and "bad place" where he had been during his teens.

He assured them, "I don't care if I'm tweeting every day obnoxiously, and annoying people left and right, I'll be around, like...there. You know he's there. You know what he's doing, you know that he's talking to you."

He also told those who are currently going through the same hardships that he went through when he came out years ago in the U.S. to, "don't do anything stupid. You're worth more than that.

"I know it doesn't seem...sometimes, like it's gonna happen. But you're gonna find the person who loves you for you."

The rise of "Its Showtime" (ABS_CBN)

Who's the real supreme QUEEN? Angel Locsin (ABS-CBN) or Marian Rivera (GMA)?

Excuse me for using comparison, We all know that there's no point in comparing Angel Locsin and Marian Rivera, really. But just to give Kapuso Fantards a straight punch in their Faces. Let’s do this!

1. Angel Locsin is currently not doing any Primetime series yet she is in-demand product commercial endorser.
Currently, Angel's commercial are being actively shown in both of ABS-CBN and GMA commercial gaps. She is currently shooting another TVC shot in Bangkok!
http://instagram.com/p/Y3mGHMxSrc/

Marian Rivera, amidst of being active in T.V esp. in Primetime don't have any active and current product commercial endorsement airing in any network!

2. Angel Locsin posed at FHM last 2010 without on-ground photo-shoot and yet she still managed to be on the FHM top 3 for 2013.
While Marian Rivera is on the Top spot in FHM sexiest, this is brought about by the fact that she posed this January 2013, almost 5 months before the FHM battle for the Sexiest. (Not to mention that GMA owns a share in that print Magazine)

3. Angel Got 2 block-buster movies in 2012. (One More Try- 213.00 million and Unofficially Yours, 157.25 million) She is starring anew in a powerhouse movie slated this year under the title Four Sisters and a wedding.

Marian Rivera released no movies in 2012 and wasn't able to reach, surpass or even match Angel Locsin's Blockbuster hits. She is starring in a supposed Valentine (or should I say 2012 pa!) movie but rescheduled to NPD or "No Permanent Date".

4. Recently, Angel Locsin headlines the Award-winning Sit-Com Toda Max which is running for more than a year now.

Marian Rivera Starred in a Sit-Com recently but was short-lived.

5. Angel Locsin has proven herself already in acting department and started year 2008 when she switched from GMA to ABS-CBN. She is truly a world class actress! She was awarded as Best Actress in credible award-giving bodies such as Asian Star Entertainment Global Excellence Awards, PMPC Star Awards for TV, Box-Office Entertainment Awards, Yahoo! OMG Awards, Gawad PASADO Awards, PMPC Star Awards for Movies and FAMAS Award aside from the universities across the nation giving her acting commendations and recognition.

Marian Rivera just got her first Best actress year 2013 from Golden Screen awards plus some universities giving her acting recognition.

6. Angel Locsin only starred in 3 Teleseryes in ABS-CBN starting 2007 up to 2013. All the Teleseryes were a success, giving high notes in terms of Ratings, Popularity, Casting and lead performance, Airtime Gap investments and was able to conquer the merchandising market and the first Online Episodes to broadcast via Imortal Webisodes plus sold out program license globally. She also manages to be an in-demand Print Ad, Billboard and TV commercial Endorser that are all active until now. Angel Locsin also was nominated in the international Emmy’s. The second Pinay to make it in the Emmy’s acting Department.

Marian Rivera starred in 8 teleseryes in GMA Starting 2007 up to 2013 yet only few are noted to be a success in terms of Ratings, Popularity, Airtime Gap investments and Lead performance! No other first in the history were noted this time. No commendations, no recognitions, No nominations. From 2007, she noted also declining endorsement up until today that we don’t see her in any commercials being aired in TV despite of her rampant appearances in GMA programs.

7. Angel Locsin is the most coveted Artist for Magazine covers. In year 2012 despite of her absence in Primetime which is said to be an excellent time and avenue for Advertisers and Marketers, she just starred in Toda Max, Angel Locsin is the only Pinay to cover a whooping 9 top-selling Magazines and 1 feature magazine in People Asia as one of the People of the year. (10 total magazines released in a year. Imagine her having a cover in each month of 2012)

Marian Rivera is tagged as GMA primetime queen. Been in Primetime last 2012 having starred in Amaya, My Beloved, Temptation Of Wife and Extra Challenge plus Tweets for my Sweet. Marian Rivera wasn’t abe to mactch or to surpass Angel Locsin’s Magazine cover despite of her full advantage of being active in T.V.

8. Angel Locsin aside from being consistent top choice for Most Beautiful Pinay, The only Pinay to note 7 years straight in the Top 3 FHM Philippines’ Sexiest, almost hall of Famer for Most Sexiest Pinay, she is also a Red-Cross Ambassadress of Good will, Role model for the youth, Icon of the Year, Makabata Star Awardee and Noted as one of the most influential People. Angel Locsin Got Beauty and Brains, Heart and soul! She’s consistent in reaching out the poor and the needy ones. She does have an online auction site, donated to countless charities.

Marian Rivera is also a top choice as Most Beautiful Pinay, Awarded also as FHM Philippines’ Sexiest. Being an Ambassadress of Goodwill is not for her, since she has been the center of scandals since year 2008. There are more brawl issues than helping news being broadcasted about Marian Rivera.

9. Angel Locsin is a versatile Actress. Angel experienced all sorts in T.V and Movie industry. She starred in Drama, Comedy, Action, Fantaserye, Sexy, Romance and Horror. She was able to portray best a Pinay superhero, Mage, Adventurer, Cook, Mother, Nurse, Crazy person, Foreigner and a Wolf among others. She was able to throw lines do scenes with most of the industries prized actor and actresses.

Marian Rivera is said to experienced similar roles, if not, roles that didn’t take much of a challenge and a child wonder in ABS-CBN can fulfill. Marian is bounded also with limited actors and actress. She’s been all along with Starlets. She wasn’t able to find the right title to really fit her. Perhaps, Telebabad Queen, there’s no need to argue because she is.

10. Angel Locsin is tagged now as Action-Drama queen of the Philippines.

Marian Rivera wasn't able to find the right title to really fit her. Perhaps, Telebabad Queen, there’s no need to argue because she is.

ABS-CBN Powerhouse 2013 Teleserye Trailers

The Queen of Primetime soap opera is back after a long break, Judy Ann Santos will play a different role in her new teleserye, 'Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala'. As ABS-CBN continues to celebrate it's 60 years of Philippine Television, the Kapamilya network brings together a power house cast which includes Sam Milby, John Estrada, KC Concepcion & Judy Ann Santos. What I like about the teaser is that Sam Milby and KC Concepcion are playing bad characters and Judy Ann Santos is tougher than her previous teleserye characters. 'Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala' is a like 'No Other Woman' meets 'Ika-labing Isang Utos' meets 'Ikaw Lang' meets 'Enough'. Yes, Juday is channeling her inner boxer, kinda the same character from Jennifer Lopez's revenge-kick ass film, 'Enough' and that infamous movie of Vilma Santos' 'Ikaw Lang'. I'm sure all fanatic of teleseryes are so excited to learn that the queen is back for one fierce tougher drama series. What can you say about 'Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala'.

'Ang Kwento ng mga teleserye ay kwento ng pagmamahal.' This is the message of acclaimed director Olivia M. Lamasan to all teleserye lovers as she introduced the teaser of ABS-CBN's newest teleserye, 'Got to Believe'. Which stars the reigning teen king & queen Daniel Padilla & Kathryn Bernardo. Directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina, 'Got to Believe' also stars Carmina Villaroel, Benjie Paras, Ian Veneraqcion & the comebacking Kapamilya  Manilyn Reynes. Also starring are Jon Lucas, Ingrid dela Paz, Alex Diaz, Julian Estrada & Liza SoberanoKathniel fans are surely excited! I'm liking the teaser as well it has true kilig in it, truly Cathy Garcia-Molina.

In ABS-CBN's continues celebration of it's 60 years of Philippine Television. The Kapamilya network proudly brings us another primeraserye that will surely conquer the hearts of Filipinos. 'Muling Buksan Ang Puso' is a love story that top bills Julia Montes ('Walang Hanggan'), Enrique Gil (Princess & I) and Enchong Dee (Ina, Kapatid, Anak). Together with Dante Rivero, Dominic Ochoa, Daniel Fernando, Malou Crisologo, Pooh, Jane Oineza and Cherie Gil. The teleserye also marks the teleserye debut of Amalia Fuentes and the soap opera comeback of Susan Roces. Truly, 'Muling Buksan Ang Puso' is one teleserye to watch out for. I'm liking the song as well, sung byErik Santos, the theme song is one mellow touching number.

Anne Curtis Spoofs Nancy Binay (Video)

Anne Curtis, on Thursday edition of It's Showtime's  impromptu acting segment "Sine Mo 'To," portrayed the role of a "debate-proof" aspiring politician who chose not to take part in public forums.

To poked fun at election candidates, Anne, along with co-hosts Vice Ganda andTeddy Corpuz, played competing candidates on an election-related theme for the week titled "Beh Boto Nga" in time for the May 13 election.

During the show, Anne as her character, explained that she had filed a temporary restraining order against participating in any debates to free herself from jeopardizing her reputation. To prove her point, she then burst into a song, to the tune of the pop hit "Titanium," to declare that she is "debate-proof".
