JM de Guzman will no longer play the role of Saint Pedro Calungsod in his biopic titled “San Pedro Calungsod: Batang Martir.”
According to reports, his dad Roniel de Guzman decided to pull him out
of the project due to “health reasons” despite reports that the actor
is currently enjoying his vacation in Australia.
According to the biopic’s writer-director Francis Villacorta, Roniel
called to say that they decided to withdraw JM's participation from the
film because they thought his son might not deliver the emotional,
mental, physical demands of the role.
“He called me to say that he feels that while his son is attending to
some health concerns, it might take time for JM to concentrate and
focus on his work ahead.” Villacorta said.
An official entry to the 39th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry,
“San Pedro Calungsod: Batang Martir” tells the life story Pedro
Calungsod, the mission assistant who hails from the Visayas, and now the
second Filipino saint who was martyred in the name of the Christian
faith.
