Manhunt International 2012 winner June Macasaet flaunts his chiseled, 6-foot-1 body once again. But this time, it’s not to grab attention for himself but to create awareness for HIV testing and counseling.
June is the latest celebrity to go bare for HIV advocacy, following Philippine Volcanoes rugby flanker Kit Guerra, Mr. Gay World Philippines 2012 Carlito Rosalindo, Jr., and TV5 celebrity chef Jeremy Favia.
For June, “HIV testing is the sexiest thing a man can do,” the same message printed on his half-naked photo showcasing his body of international caliber and that sexy stare.
The ad is for Project Indulge, the HIV testing awareness campaign, which is a collaboration among Love Yourself, award-winning advertising agency Campaigns & Grey, and top-ranked photographer Jeanne Young.
The campaign “emphasizes the importance of regular HIV testing to stay healthy and feel sexy,” says the group in a press statement.
Though this ad is focused on encouraging men to take the test, several other groups encourage everyone to take the test. In May, the UNAIDS and the Philippines Legislators’ Committee on Population and Development (PLCPD) launched the ‘YES2Test’ campaign urging all citizens to voluntary HIV testing. ElysPlanet.Com through the Bloggers For A Cause attended the Bloggers’ Forum on HIV Awareness in its aim to spread the information about the campaign.
UNAIDS record shows around 13 individuals are infected with HIV daily for the month of April 2013 and the number is rising. UNAIDS projects a total of 28,072 actual cases in the Philippines this year. And there was no way to record the number of HIV positive individuals if people refuse to take the test, says UNAIDS.
LoveYourself provides free HIV testing and counseling through its Malate-based LoveYourself Hub. With the growing demand for its services, the group plans to build a second center called LoveYourself Anglo along Shaw Boulevard near EDSA.
