As it stands Deathly Hallows: Part 2 is now eighth on the all-time worldwide chart, ahead of The Dark Knight but just behind Alice in Wonderland. Box Office Mojo predicts that with the movie opening in China next weekend, Potter will ultimately overtake The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King ($1.12 billion) to become the third highest grossing movie of all time (without inflation).
Here’s the all-time list as it stands today:
1. Avatar – $2.7BAs you can see, Transformers: Dark of the Moon is on the verge of crossing the $1 billion mark. When it does that will make it the third movie from 2011 to join the all-time list. Obviously 3D ticket prices have helped immensely, and overseas audiences have made up 65-76% of the total grosses for each film
2. Titanic – $1.9B
3. Lord of the Rings: Return of the King – $1.1B
4. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest – $1.066B
5. Toy Story 3 – $1.063B
6. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides – $1.032B
7. Alice in Wonderland – $1.02B
8. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 - $1.008
9. The Dark Knight – $1B
10. Transformers: Dark of the Moon – $982.9
